FUROR erupted among enthusiasts when Dana White disclosed the headlining bout for UFC 300.

Alex Pereira is set to safeguard his light heavyweight title against former champion Jamahal Hill at the spectacle, a contest unveiled by UFC CEO Dana White.

Expectations were high that this milestone event would witness the convergence of the most illustrious names in the sport in the vibrant city of Las Vegas.

Welterweight champion Leon Edwards was heavily speculated to make a notable appearance, alongside the former two-time UFC Middleweight Champion, Israel Adesanya.

Additionally, fans were anticipating the long-awaited return of Conor McGregor to the octagon after a hiatus of two and a half years, potentially facing off against Michael Chandler.

Contrary to these expectations, the main event is now slated to feature a clash between light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira and former champion Jamahal Hill.

White expressed his enthusiasm in unveiling this encounter, characterizing Pereira as a “violent and formidable all-action striker,” while underscoring Hill’s prior relinquishment of his light heavyweight belt due to injury.

Nevertheless, fan reactions indicate discontent, with some expressing a desire for more high-profile fighters to take center stage.

One disgruntled fan exclaimed, “All that anticipation for an announcement? Fetch the oil.”

Another added, “This doesn’t live up to the stature of a UFC 300 main event, Dana.”

A third critic chimed in, “This is a considerable disappointment compared to what transpired at UFC 100 and UFC 200.”

British champion Edwards had aspired to defend his title at UFC 300, followed by a return to Birmingham for a hometown bout at Villa Park.

UFC head honcho White disclosed that the 22-3 fighter had even accepted challenges from three different opponents, with Bilal Muhammad being one of the suggested names.

White commended Edwards’ dedication, stating, “Leon Edwards has faced three different opponents in this process. He does not decline any challenges. This individual is a bona fide prodigy, and I extend my gratitude. Much respect.”

UFC 300 is slated to feature a dozen fights, headlined by a world title encounter between Chinese fighters Zhang Weili and Yan Xiaonan.

Weili, who has earned the Performance of the Night accolade in her past three bouts, is renowned for her epic showdown with Joanna Jędrzejczyk, a bout that etched itself into UFC history and garnered the Fight of the Year award in 2022.

Her opponent, Xiaonan, stands as the top contender in the strawweight division, having knocked out Jéssica Andrade in her latest bout, another combatant set to grace UFC 300 against Marina Rodriguez.

The historic fight card will also witness marquee matchups such as Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan.

Viewers tuning in will be treated to encounters like Jiri Prochazka vs. Aleksandar Rakic, Calvin Kattar vs. Aljamain Sterling, and Bo Nickal vs. Cody Brundage, alongside Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Cody Garbrandt.
